Technical Studies
At Velangaye Secondary School, we are committed to providing learners with practical, career focused education through our Technical Studies Department, which offers three dynamic streams: Electrical Technology, Civil Technology, and Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD). These subjects are designed to equip learners with the skills, knowledge, and problem solving abilities needed to thrive in today’s fast changing world of technology and industry. 1. Electrical Technology Learners gain hands on experience in the principles and applications of electricity. They are trained to work safely with circuits, wiring systems, and electrical installations while learning about energy efficiency and modern technologies. This stream opens doors to careers in electrical engineering, renewable energy, and technical trades, or further studies at universities and technical colleges. 2. Civil Technology This stream focuses on building and construction techniques. Learners explore concepts in masonry, carpentry, plumbing, and structural design, developing skills that are crucial for careers in civil engineering, construction management, and sustainable infrastructure development. Civil Technology also encourages innovation to address the unique building needs of rural and urban communities. 3. Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD) EGD nurtures visual thinking and technical drawing skills. Learners are taught how to design, interpret, and produce technical drawings using industry-standard methods. These skills are essential for careers in architecture, engineering, product design, and drafting, providing a strong foundation for learners aspiring to join the built environment and design industries. Through these streams, our technical department not only prepares learners for tertiary education and skilled careers but also encourages entrepreneurship and innovation. In a world where skilled technical professionals are in high demand, Velangaye’s technical programs empower learners to be creators, problem solvers, and leaders who can contribute to the growth and transformation of their communities and South Africa as a whole.
